Motor Authority

MotorAuthority.com began in 2006 as a small enthusiast website focusing on automotive product and industry news, which a skew towards performance and luxury segments.

How it all started

Unlike most of our other projects where we are approached by the client, in case of MotorAuthority everything started simply by us pointing out a bug on MotorAuthority's old website. After a bit of back and forth discussions we found out that the founder wasn’t at all happy with the company that was maintaining and attempting to upgrade the website for him at the time.

We were confident that we could do much better and offered our help, which was met with much excitement. It took a while to sort though the mess made by the previous company, but after many months of hard work between InkSpill and a great developer from Versus Technologies the website was finally back on track.

What We Did

When InkSpill joined the project, MotorAuthority was little more then a small blog with half a dozen posts made daily by a small group of enthusiast. After the project was put back on track, the founder chose to take it in a new direction - specifically rather than staying a ‘blog’, it was decided that MotorAuthority needed to grow up and mature into a full scale, premiere automotive news website.

For months we were hard at work going though many different ideas, and different design directions. What we resulted with was an excellent outlay which combined the ease of use of a regular blog, with the ability to present much bigger amounts of content without overwhelming the readers.

THE RESULTS

When the completely overhauled website launched in mid 2008, it was praised by virtually everyone who was it with the readers being completely overjoyed by the design.

The vastly improved website helped MotorAuthority reach it’s potential and thanks to the hard work between the dedicated editors, writers and the continued design support from InkSpill, MotorAuthority was acquired by a large silicon valley company a little over a year after the new website launched.
